The  easiest fix is to switch to GDM  

Run these commands:
  sudo apt-get remove lightdm
  sudo apt-get install gdm

Then reboot.

@Sebastian
A fix was provided on 2011-09-16, but most people that tested that fix still had the same issues. Or it worked, but the update after that put them back to the same issue.
