[Bug 1371969] Re: Contextual menu>"Save link as..." causes chromium-browser to crash
I ran chromium-browser from a terminal, and then tried exactly the same
steps, which caused Chromium to crash again.
el_gallo_azul@W2600CR:~$ chromium-browser
[55420:55420:0923/042613:ERROR:desktop_window_tree_host_x11.cc(1497)] Not implemented reached in void views::DesktopWindowTreeHostX11::MapWindow(ui::WindowShowState)
[55420:55490:0923/042613:ERROR:get_updates_processor.cc(240)] PostClientToServerMessage() failed during GetUpdates
[55420:55456:0923/042656:FATAL:url_request.cc(709)] Trying to send secure referrer for insecure load
Aborted (core dumped)
el_gallo_azul@W2600CR:~$
(I don't know if those "code" switches work here, but I can't work out
what markdown format is used here. I hope they work when I "Post
Comment")
The browser was running fine after the terminal showed the line
"[55420:55490:0923/042613:ERROR:get_updates_processor.cc(240)] PostClientToServerMessage() failed during GetUpdates
"
Then I tried to "Save link as..." and the browser crashed, and the last two lines above then appeared in the terminal.
I've never worked out what a "magnet URL" is, so it's probably a HTTP
URL.
This particular example is:

Title:
Contextual menu>"Save link as..." causes chromium-browser to crash
Status in “chromium-browser” package in Ubuntu:
Incomplete
Bug description:
I wanted to download a torrent, but also ensuring that first I kept a
copy of the torrent link that I used.
That's why I right-clicked the torrent link to "Save link as..."
before left-clicking it.
I tried a few times, and the browser crashed each time, so I did
exactly the same thing in Mozilla Firefox with no problem.
1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'lsb_release -rd' or
System -> About Ubuntu

Release: 14.04
2) The version of the package you are using, via 'apt-cache policy
pkgname' or by checking in Software Center
chromium-browser:
Installed: 37.0.2062.94-0ubuntu0.14.04.1~pkg1042
Candidate: 37.0.2062.94-0ubuntu0.14.04.1~pkg1042

3) What you expected to happen
Save the file "XXX.torrent" before starting the torrent.
4) What happened instead
The browser crashed, so I was not able to save the file "XXX.torrent".
