Title:
  /usr/bin/X segfaults during boot

Status in “fglrx-installer” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Right after upgrading to 12.04, the display manager failed to start. This turned out to be due to a crash of /usr/bin/X.
I've downloaded the latest driver from AMD's website amd-driver-installer-12-4-x86.x86_64.run for hardware ATI mobility Radeon HD 4500.
I deleted all nvidia drivers which got loaded automatically.
The Xorg.0.log shows more info. I am assuming this file is included in the problem report.
By the way, installation of the ATI driver did not finish successfully. Not sure if this has anything to do with the crash. Please let me know if more details on this failed installation are required for debugging.
