[Bug 1375652] Re: [Utopic] nouveau flush timeout lockups

Ok, so the same happens when running a glmark2 loop with a 3.13 kernel.
So not related to the problem I initially had. I would say that was
quicker to trigger and seems to be gone with the latest kernels in
Utopic.

Title:
  [Utopic] nouveau flush timeout lockups

Status in “xserver-xorg-video-nouveau” package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
Needs more investigation but the system feels sluggish (video operations not always smooth). This morning I had a crash in firefox (may not be related) and it does not always seem to be reproducible. Yesterday I was able to run glxgears and play a video stream through firefox for quite some time without issues. So HW failure from old age might be a reason, too.
With the initial install the lockups always seemed to happen when opening a selection dropbox (like the timeout for blanking the screen in the settings). Yesterday (after getting console to be a serial one) the lockup happened on the youtube front-page. After a reboot it did not happen again and today (after dist-upgrading) it just happened again (on some youtube page).

For yesterday and today, mouse still moved but gui was not responding.
Also would not allow to switch to any vt. Serial console was still
  working and showed:

  nouveau [W_PCIEGART] [0000:01:00.0] flush timeout, 0x00000002

  Today also (after a while):

nouveau E[Xorg[1500]] failed to idle channel 0xcccc0000 [Xorg[1500]]
