Linda, you say in bug 1312594, comment #17 that you do not have any
printing problem. So you do not need to report a bug in CUPS. It is all
OK for you with CUPS.

Bug description:
  see bug 1312594 for my initial report, then one of the maintainers
  (?), Christopher M. Penalver, https://launchpad.net/~penalvch, told me
  to report my bug anew using ubuntu-bug cups, which brought me here.

  This was in the "sane-backends" package, also referred to as
  "libsane".

  Actually, I don't think my problem is cups, because -- I don't know,
  but if cups just refers to printing problems -- my printing is working
  fine, just not the scanning.
