Probably nothing makes me more upset than the suggestion of a clean

work for me to try to get things almost to how I had them. I know for
some, a clean install is not terrifying or doesn't take them long. Not
so for me.

I'll have to check which theme I'm using and will have to research how
to tell. I think, but not sure, it is not the default one. Panels are
definitely black now. In 12.04 the color and transparent panels worked
perfectly. I also can't seem to add launchers for many of the programs
and monitors [temp, disk activity, etc.] I had on them before. They are
just not there now after the upgrade.

I understand. I mentioned before that my 14.04 [on a very fast machine]
takes about 10-15x longer to start than did 12.04 - so many reboots
really takes a long time!

Pfft! A lot of time and work...but I'll give it a try. I fear like death
a 'clean install'....

Title:
Gnome Fallback[s] don't work in 14.04. Work once ONLY if reinstalled
Status in “gnome-panel” package in Ubuntu:
New
Bug description:
While the computer is saying its a problem with gnome-panel, I keep
re-installing gnome-session-fallback. It will work [in either flavor
of fallback (no idea why there are now two!) ONE TIME - but the next
time I get a screen with NO panels and NO keyboard shortcuts are
recognized (so I can't even get a terminal). All I can do is hard
shut-down of computer; restart into gnome or unity or some others
(which I do NOT like to use!). I have done this MANY times now. It
never stays 'done'. Am going back to my copy ov 12.04 until someone
can tell me why or how to make one of the fallbacks (hopefully both)
work every time I sign in to 14.04. Thank you. Anyone else having
similar problems? The only other thing I can think of is that I
upgraded from 12.04 in which fallback operated just fine and was
stable.
