At some point, this bug stopped being an issue for me, but that was
several versions ago. In Ubuntu 14.04, I can confirm that I'm still
experiencing this bug.

  Previous systems - Karmic, Jaunty and before kept the last settings in
  Evince. In Lucid, it always opens with the side pane and in mini-mode.

  I expected it to open in the mode last used.
