[Bug 1301280] Re: gnome-language-selector: dragging a language does not work

Well, gnome-language-selector works with accountsservice to set the
language, and root is not a normal accountsservice user. Also, please
remember that you can't change the overall language environment on the
fly; you need to re-login for a new language to be applied.

You can start gnome-terminal in English by pressing Alt+F2 and run the

env LANGUAGE=en gnome-terminal

Otherwise, if you actually log in as root, you can set the language for
root manually (untested):

~# echo 'LANGUAGE=en' >> .pam_environment
~# echo 'LANG=en_US.UTF-8' >> .pam_environment

You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop

gnome-language-selector: dragging a language does not work

Status in “language-selector” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
In 14.04, daily update, when I try to drag a language I get this
message (but only on the first try):

/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/LanguageSelector/LanguageSelector.py:81: UserWarning: No language saved for user 'root'.
    warnings.warn("No language saved for user '%s'." % os.getenv('USER'))

and the drag is unsuccessful. It works fine in 12.04.
