Bug description:
  Binary package hint: displayconfig-gtk

  [Hardy Heron 8.04]

The LCD on the Everex VA2001T used to work in Beta 4 but the screen
shimmered constantly so I did 'dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xerver-xorg' to
attempt to fix it. The resulting output indeed doesn't shimmer but
will no longer center the login screen properly or come back from
suspend without corrupting the graphics in an incorrect mode.
(assuming it acknowledges keypresses from suspend at all)

The monitor detects as unknown in both hardy and stable but is
supposed to be 1440x900. The video card, a chrome 9 HC IGP supposedly
is covered by openchrome but it will not start under that driver so
  VESA is used instead.
