I experience the same problem. Ubuntu 14.04 on Dell Latitude E7440, rdesktop to windows 7, crashes as soon as I start vsphere.
Sometimes a black screen immediately sometimes after a couple of minutes.

I connected to a Windows 7 remote desktop session. There, I started
vmware vcenter and logged in to the vcenter. Once the login was
complete, X crashed. Repeatedly.
