Re: [Bug 1394189] Re: nvidia proprietary driver stopped working after ubuntu 14.04 updates from 18 November 2014
Hi Christopher,
Thanks for your response. At the moment I have unistalled the nvidia
drivers and am using the nouveau drivers. Do I need to re-install the
nvidia drivers before I carry out the command you have asked for?

Title:
nvidia proprietary driver stopped working after ubuntu 14.04 updates
from 18 November 2014
Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
Incomplete
Bug description:
Dual Screen not working on 14.04 when I log in today. Get error
message:
Failed to apply configuration: %s
GDBus.Error:org.gtk.GDBus.UnmappedGError.Quark._gnome_2drr_2derror_2dquark.Code2:
could not set the configuration for CRTC 63
Yesterday I applied updates. Ubuntu software history shows these as:
bsdutils(2.20.1-5.1ubuntu20.2,2.20.1-5.1ubuntu20.3)
xserver-xorg-video-intel(2.99.910-0ubuntu1.2,2.99.910-0ubuntu1.3)
Previous to this I have had no problems with dual screen on 14.04.
Solved this by reverting back to the Nouveau driver rather than using
the recommended proprietary driver under the Softwares
&Updates>Additional Drivers link. The recommended nvidia proprietary
driver (version 331.38) previously worked but doesn't work after the
above Ubuntu updates. Graphics card used GeForce GT 540M.
