[Bug 1398174] Re: Move search provider defaults from Ubufox to Firefox
This is actually broken on standard Ubuntu installs - if the locale is
en-US and the timezone is an American one, Firefox uses a different set
of preferences for the default search engine, which we aren't overriding

Title:
Move search provider defaults from Ubufox to Firefox
Status in firefox package in Ubuntu:
Triaged
Bug description:
Currently we ship our own customized search plugins in Firefox for
some search providers, but the actual default search engine for each
locale is set in Ubufox. This has worked until now because our default
search engine has matched Mozilla's default. However, it's going to
cause some problems in future releases:
- Ubuntu users who disable or uninstall Ubufox probably don't expect the default search provider to switch to Mozilla's regional default (eg, Yahoo for US).
- Same for people who run in safe-mode.
- Ubuntu derivatives who don't install Ubufox will get Ubuntu search plugins but Mozilla's default search engine order.
- We need to set the defaults for each locale, the default preference values need to match the display name of the search plugin (which can be localized) and the shipped locales can change between releases. It would be better if we could auto-generate these customizations as part of the Firefox build.
