Title:
lid switch on HP 6930p, 6710b works only after running on battery

Status in pm-utils package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
I have an HP Elitebook 6930p laptop running Jaunty (and formerly
Intrepid, but this is a clean install of Jaunty, not an upgrade).

I find that the lid switch on this machine works on battery, and works
on AC after the machine has been running on battery, but doesn't work
on AC if the machine has been on AC ever since boot.

  When it's not working:
  - evtest /dev/input/event2 never shows any events happening
  - I never see lid closed events in the Power History applet
  - the machine doesn't sleep when I close the lid, even when it's configured to do so
it's pretty clear the lid switch event is just not arriving.

I can reproduce this easily by:

  1) plug the machine into AC power
  2) boot (or reboot if it's already up)
  3) close lid, wait for machine to suspend (it won't), open lid
  4) look for any evidence of lid closing in Power History (there won't be any events)
  5) unplug and immediately replug AC power
  6) close lid
  7) machine will suspend. Open lid, press power button to resume.
  8) note the lid close event will show in Power History as well

I'm pretty sure the lid switch worked (without needing to force a
power supply transition) under Intrepid on this machine.
