Title:
system crashes on resume from suspend

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
The system suspends properly when I select "suspend" from the power
menu, or when I close the lid on my laptop. However, when I try to
resume by pressing the power button or opening the laptop, the system
seems to start resuming properly, and a cursor appears on a black
screen, but then a few seconds later a black and white pattern
appears, with the cursor still visible and movable. This screen does
not go away, and the system does not appear to be responsive (other
than the ability to move the cursor), not even going into a soft
shutdown from a press of the power button. To recover from this, I
have to force a hard shutdown of the computer, and reboot that way.
