Ok so we can consider this a duplicate of bug 1242112.  You can find
there a simple workaround.

   Shutdown/restart dialogue is not working if Cairo-Dock and its Launcher-API-Deamon are running or if another app is registered to LauncherEntry interface of Unity DBus

Bug description:
  Recently i have upgraded from 14.04 to 14.10. I am unable to shutdown
  my system as when i click on shutdown instead of shutdown it just
  logged me out.
