I was able to produce this issue when I removed Unity. Cloudane's
solution did fixed the problem

Bug description:
Scenario: a fresh Ubuntu 14.04 install, with fglrx or fglrx-updates on a Vaio computer with hybrid Radeon HD 6630M graphics.
How to reproduce: logging in and then logging out clicking on "End Session".
What happens: black screen.
