Title:
Gnome panels continuously crash, then reload
Status in gnome-panel package in Ubuntu:
Invalid
Bug description:
Binary package hint: gnome-panel
Whew, this one is one annoying bug! After finally getting my second
monitor working as a seperate Xscreen with nvidia's proprietary tool,
I noticed a weird-looking icon where the Network Manager icon usually
is. I should note that both screens have identical panels. except for
the Notification Area. This is the default appearance after using the
nvidia tool.
Anyway, I try to remove this icon. Doesn't work the first time, but
the second time, it does. But now all four panels crash and reload,
crash and reload, ad infinitum, and the alt+F2 dialog crashes shortly
after being opened. I even have to restart the computer after a few
minutes, because I get a kernel panic! This does not reccur after the
reboot though, strangely, though the panels keep flashing.
I finally manage to stop the madness by adding a launcher for the
gnome-terminal to my desktop, double-clicking it to get to a terminal,
then killing gconfd-2.
