Title:
build applets in gnome-panel as executables instead of shlibs
Status in gnome-panel package in Ubuntu:
Invalid
Bug description:
Binary package hint: gnome-panel
Currently the applets shipping in gnome-panel itself are built as
shlibs. To speed up log-in time, and to avoid crashing the entire
panel when for example, an evolution-data-server bug/issue causes the
clock applet to crash, it would be good to have these built as
separate processes instead. I think this especially makes sense for
the clock, given the plausibility of crashes due to bugs in Evolution,
and the fact that it has grown significantly in size during recent
upstream releases (world clock, weather info, etc...).
