i are keep using 331 because nvidia-current has led to more problems than
just this, in fact it made the system essentially unusable.  the
xorg-edgers drivers are no better... underscanning causes serious issues
with screen refreshes, edge scrolling, panel sizes, mouse clicks are not
where the hotspot should be, shadow artifacts remaining on the screen, etc.
The 331 driver may show as being broken at every. single. kernel. update. -
but at least after applying the proposed bandaids, at least it provides a
working desktop.
Maybe if the root problem were actually fixed instead of band-aided, then
the driver version would not enter into it.
