Well after 3yr. the odds of getting fixed are slim to none.
Here I just create a PNG of my chosen solid color/gradient & use that for
the background instead

Bug description:
  If I set my user's wallpaper to solid color or a gradient, this is not
  reflected in the Unity Greeter and I get the default wallpaper
  instead.
