Re: (GIS) Facility indicators
Hi there. A couple of more issues that arise from this as well.
First, transparency. I am thinking that it would be nice, if possible,
to be able to adjust the level of transparency in addition to the
color scheme. This is a tricky issue, as transparent point symbols may
"bleed" into the colors underneath. This is the same for polygons,
which might be transparent so some degree, and bleed in with the
background image (such as a satellite image or other WMS background
layer). I am not really sure what the best way to handle this is. It
is easy to create really crappy looking maps unless this is managed
properly. I am not sure if you have considered this, or if it is even
possible.
Second, layer ordering. I can imagine we will start getting into a
situation where we will have to apply some sort of ordering to the
layers, similar to the functionality in most GIS systems. With all of
these layers (polygons, point symbols, background layers, and other
"static layers" such as roads, transportation, etc) it may get very
messy quickly.
Intermap, the client that ships with Geonetwork, uses the Web Mapping
Context standard for this, which will work well for different WFS/WMS
layers, but since it really isn't possible at the moment (as far as I
know with DHIS) to make a WMS call directly for a particular layer
(similar to the REST interface of the OpenHealth prototype), I am not
exactly sure either how this would be done.
Anyway, just some musings...having point based mapping functionality
will be a great!
Best regards,
Jason
