I guess I should clarify my response a bit as I was really thinking more
about server bandwidth than client bandwidth.
Client bandwidth of course matters (a lot), and I think out experience is
largely the same as the Kenya experience, with internet speeds hovering
around 20 kpbs as well in the field,which is fine for data entry, but
not appropriate for administration/GIS/reports. I think that my line
(64kBps) is probably really the minimum of what would be appropriate for
all features of the system to be accessible. I rarely have problems here in
Zambia nowadays since the switch over to fiber, but before that, it was
very difficult to perform administrative tasks on the machine remotely over
a SSH connection, due to high latency and funky QoS rules of the ISP. I
would say for these types of administrative functions, you should ideally
have either a fast, uncontested VSAT connection or a DSL line, otherwise,
you are really going to suffer.
