This is still affecting an upgraded database on 2.13 (from 2.12).

Has this been put into the startup scripts to modify the column type to
text?

  Messages longer than 250 characters cause crash

Bug description:
  Currently the system crashes if your message is more than 250
  characters or so. This limit should be significantly increased (TEXT
  instead of VARCHAR?) and the user informed when the message is too
  long.
