I have already posted the attribute length as another bug report.

The key point with all these is that (a) we all agree that the typical NAME
fields should be restricted, and 160 characters is fine by me; (b) we seem
not to agree (?) with regard to fields used for descriptions, definitions,
and the like. This includes meta-data attributes.

Since we have ample evidence that there are many such values well above 255
characters, the only thing that makes sense is to ensure that all such
fields are type TEXT (i.e. unlimited length) and that the UI imposes no
restrictions.

I would also prefer to add a display parameter to meta-data attributes,
enabling users to specify the height of the text box used to
capture/display such values.
