Hi Becky,

I've been looking into this. It seems that this can be a problem if you
have both #{dataelementid.optioncomboid} and #{dataelementid} in the same
validation rule *run* (either in the same rule or in different rules
evaluated the same run), and if optioncomboid is the default category
option combo. This problem has now been fixed in 2.29 build 24b5733, and we
are working to see if we can backport it to 2.28 as well. Meanwhile, I am
glad you found a way around it.
