Hi Stephen,

This really depends a lot on your hosting company.

In general, it is best to use a hosting company which provides you
direct access to the server (Amazon, Linode ) with enough privileges
to modify and control the environment of the server itself, such as
setting enviornment variables, scripts for backup jobs, etc. I am not
aware of anyone else using this type of hosting arrangement. If you
look at the implementation guide, there are quite detailed
instructions for Ubuntu, on a remote host, but assuming you have been
granted quite a bit of privileges on the server.
