Then we need input from some more experienced Mac users.

You could perhaps try to start DHIS2 Live from the terminal like this:

java -jar -XX:MaxPermSize=256m dhis2-live.jar

If that works, change the dhis-live/conf/hibernate.properties file to point
to your postgres db.
