Re: using DHIS2 in offline mode

 

Hi Alison,

There are a couple of options, none of which are ideal. It depends on the
scale of your operation.

1) You could install the whole of DHIS2 on a laptop and run locally. The
challenge is this requires someone to set it up, keep the metadata
synchronized (so you can in fact do exports and imports), and also to do
upgrades. It can work ok for a handful of relatively stable installations,
but gets messy and almost nightmarish if you are talking hundreds of health
centers.

2) A very limited part of the functionality still does run offline if only
you are online the first time (mainly aggregate data entry)

3) The best option, which we are recommending, is to work with our Android
solutions, which work well offline and some tablets provide 10 hours of
battery life or more. However, they are still very much work in progress,
and so far mainly limited to data entry.
