Hi, I am bringing this back to the list, since others can also chip in.

Postgres comes with a command line tool called psql, and with a GUI app
called PgAdmin III. I always use PgAdmin when I work locally, but usually
just go through the command line on the server (though it is of course
limited).

As for the datamodel, the core tables for aggregate data are really all the
ones that link to the datavalue table: dataelement, period, source (which
links to organisationunit). Then the categoryoptioncombos is the key to a
number of tables involved in the disaggregation.
