Title:
speaker volume controls work in unexpected ways

Status in ubuntu-docs package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
This is on a Dell XPS 13 running Ubuntu 14.10. When playing an mp4
video under Videos 3.10.1, the speaker volume seems to respond
  normally to the keyboard controls i.e. Fn-F11=volume down;
Fn-F12=volume up; next key on right=speaker mute. The flash at the top
right of the screen indicates the selected speaker volume status.

I would expect the keyboard volume controls to work as they normally
do either in parallel with the application controls (either control
being capable of adjusting the volume independently) or in series with
the application controls (either control capable of adjusting the
volume but the resultant volume being as though each volume control
was in series such that maximum volume would need both set to
  maximum).

When using the speaker symbol at the bottom right of the Videos
window, the flash initially indicates full volume. The slider allows
to speaker volume to be adjusted up and down. However, after using the
slider, the keyboard controls above (F11, F12 and mute) no longer seem
able to control the speaker volume, even though the volume flash seems
to indicate a response to the controls. The action of the keyboard
controls are rendered non-functional by the use of the application's
  controls.

There is another minor bug associated with the speaker symbol. When
using full screen selected via the control on the left-hand side of
the lower control strip, the vertical volume control slide selected by
clicking the speaker symbol on the right is hidden by the video
window. It does not appear on top of this window and therefore cannot
be used to effectively adjust the speaker volume without deselecting
  full screen.
