ok, it is not ubuntu-docs.   apparently an errant keystroke enabled me
to submit the bug before it was correct in any way.  I'll try again (how
do I delete it? edit it? I'm the one who tried to make it! sorry!!)

  screen brightness slider has no effect

Status in ubuntu-docs package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  f.lux also has no effect. 
  also when i try to do
   sudo echo 50 > /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness
  then it says 'bash: brightness: permission denied'.

  Trusty Tahr 14.04 updated to current
