[Bug 41446] Re: Umlauts (diaresis) in small fonts of DejaVu Serif (Ubuntu Dapper)

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to
look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many
changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem
may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a lot if
you could test it on a currently supported Ubuntu version, such as
16.04.

** Changed in: ttf-dejavu (Ubuntu)
Assignee: DejaVu fonts (dejavu+fonts) => (unassigned)

** Package changed: ttf-dejavu (Ubuntu) => fonts-dejavu (Ubuntu)

Title:
Umlauts (diaresis) in small fonts of DejaVu Serif (Ubuntu Dapper)

Status in fonts-dejavu package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
In small-sized fonts (font size <= 10) of the DejaVu Serif font, which
appears to be the standard font for serif fonts in Ubuntu Dapper, the
diaresis or trema is not centered above the respective character (a,
u, or o). Misplacing becomes especially apparent for capitalized
  umlauts and o-umlauts in general.

For DejaVu Sans however, diareses are centered correctly. Umlauts are
also correctly centered if autohinter is chosen in fontconfig via
  "dpkg-reconfigure fontconfig".
