If ufc is installed in a non-standard directory, scons exits with an 
error message saying one should try to set the environment variable 
UFC-1_DIR

Does anyone know how to do this (without looking it up, of course)?
export UFC-1_DIR does not work.

I suggest we use a different variable without the '-' that is creating 
the problem.
