description:
Recursively extract matching dofs to handle arbitrarily nested function spaces
when applying periodic boundary conditions. Should in particular work for periodic
boundary conditions for vector-valued elements (like in Navier-Stokes).

in the constructor and then reused when calling apply(). This should speedup
repeated application of periodic boundary conditions in time-dependent
problems.
