I ended up spending most of this day trying to log into Ubuntu after it decided to start freezing randomly (11.04 on a MacBook)... :-( No luck so far. So it looks like I will have to spend time on setting up my environment again on a VirtualBox from Mac OS X, instead of working on the set_foo functions (on which I made some progress earlier this morning).
