The cahn-hilliard demo runs fine when using two or four processes, but
it hangs when using three processes and I get errors when I increase
it further:

[buildmaster:30400] *** An error occurred in MPI_Bcast
[buildmaster:30400] *** on communicator MPI COMMUNICATOR 5 DUP FROM 3
[buildmaster:30400] *** MPI_ERR_IN_STATUS: error code in status
[buildmaster:30400] *** MPI_ERRORS_ARE_FATAL (your MPI job will now abort)
