Yes I needed in the case of building it FEniCS on opensuse 11.4 / Tumbleweed. Patch will be submitted, but I remember that I ran into a missing libpcre3-dev. Swig version on opensuse is pre 2.0, so I needed to build it myself. It would nice to keep it with the upcoming new opensuse platform in mind.
