A couple of ideas

hi guys! first of all i'd like to say it was quite brave to even dare to launch this project;) i was thinking for some time about the same idea and today i tried to search for people with similar points of view and almost immediately found this project and so here i am. recently i tried ubuntustudio and i should say such specialized flavors are worthwhile since they help users save their time and simplify their work. i know that many developers would say it's a bad idea to create a separate distro just for developers but you must know you're on the right way. well, we are..

i'm quite busy today so i just want to drop a line about myself and some of my ideas.

first of all we need a forum but for now we can just launch a couple 'standard' theads. for example:
'tools' for posts related to selecting which software to include into the distro.
'atrwork' for artwok discussion
'installer' for discussion about which installer to adopt
etc. feel free to create these threads if you think it's a good idea.

what about package selection i think we don't need any poll at all. we can pick up some of the most popular tool, put them into the distro and release it. untill then we'll have a website and some ability to get user feedback. for now we should base our selection on different topics all over the web - developers have always been asking what an ide to use, what language to learn and so on.

what about the name for this project, though dubuntu is good enough we shouldn't interfere with another distro so my vote goes to devbuntu. both dubuntu.org and devbuntu.org are available.

i'll try to create some artwork but i think we should be determined about the project name before some real artwork can be created.

about myself: i've been programming for several years for windows platform and for more than three years for web. since i switched to linux i've been developing for web and didn't accepted any of existing desktop technologies and am actively developing a new component model for my future framework. here's a short list of what i'm aware of:

expert level knowledge:
php,mysql,apache,javascript,html/xml,css,c++,dotnet(c#,vc++)(given it up but still have enough knowledge),assembler

aware of:
object pascal(haven't used for years - lazarus fails to work normally with gtk2 so next time maybe),java

beginner level knowledge:
java me

best regards,
jay
