(I should note that while there is code in this branch to explicitly support py2.4, I grabbed that from an old old branch I made back in the day for py2to3 support.  I haven't tested it recently.  I'm actually not even sure how best to test 2.4 and 2.5 now, since my version of virtualenv has dropped support.)
