I second Jonathan Sambrook and add that I ALWAYS need to do Alt+TAB
twice to even get to show the desktop. This is very annoying.

Any updates on this app switching bug?
This bug has been around for almost 2 years, and it is current in latest ubuntu 13.04 release as well.

Bug description:
  Using 4.24.0 from oneiric-proposed:
  - open several softwares
  - select one
  - use alt-tab and select "desktop"
  - do "alt-tab"
  - it should bring you back to what was on screen before the "show desktop" call but it doesn't
