[Bug 1174950] Re: login page is purple without login
I seem to have fixed the login bug by commenting out the line: sleep 5
under the line: post-start script
in the /etc/init/lightdm.conf
file. The login now works correctly most of the time with an occasional failure (5% of the time).
I also fixed problems with the software-center, Ubuntu one, and backup
apps by deleting .cache/sso/sso-client.log

Title:
login page is purple without login
Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:
New
Bug description:
My computer is a Dell inspiron 1420 laptop Since upgrading to Ubuntu 13.04 I have encountered many bugs.
Most importantly after booting up I reach an all purple page without login. Hitting ctrl-alt-F1 reaches a page
with the words "starting up" and a blinking cursor. Hitting ctrl-alt-F2 gives a desktop terminal. After installing
the latest Nvidia driver 319 I am able to use "startx" to access the Unity GUI. Once there I am forced every time to
authenticate the login keyring. Many of the apps fail to open. These include the software center, ubuntu one, and
unity-tweak. The software updater will open only after authentication and does not load repositories. There is no
suspend option on the top rightmost menu and the shutdown option is the same as the logout option. If I "sudo startx"
the menu options include suspend, hibernate, and the shutdown option is configured correctly with a restart option.
I have followed many suggestions on ubuntu forums and ask ubuntu to try to fix lightdm or gdm including purging and
reinstalling but to no avail. I have cleaned out excess files with the ubuntu-tweak-janitor and there does not appear
to be a space problem. When I made a change to lightdm the first time I used "sudo lightdm service restart" I was able to
reach a normal purple screen with the login included, but after that it reverted to the buggy version without login
upon reboot. After a reboot when I use startx to reach Unity, there is "user name" rather than my name on the top rightmost
menu and it is locked. After I authenticate the keyring, a few minutes later, my name appears and the buggy menu is unlocked.
The user accounts app is also not working. I tried to add a login key to the seahorse app but it disappeared after a reboot.
I have never had these kinds of problems with other Ubuntu upgrades.
