On my experience the dash only finds files that have been opened before. Try opening the file that you are searching for and do the search again. If it finds it, you could update the bug title.
Anyway, I think this is a very serious issue, it takes away the trustworthiness of the dash completely.
I've tested this behaviour on 13.04 and 13.10 (final beta) as well.

  Confirmed

Bug description:
  For example, if I search for a specific song in my Music folder, some are found and some not, even if I type exactly the file name as it is.
  I use Ubuntu 12.10 64-bit.
