I have the same problem!
During shutdown if you close the lid, it does not get shutdown, I think it goes into sleep mode.

Bug description:
  Only seen in a ubuntu (unity) session
  Test case on laptop:
  Shutdown machine from session indicator, close laptop lid right after selecting Shutdown from pop up window.

  What should happen:
   machine should complete shutdown process

  What does happen:
   shutdown hangs until the laptop lid is re-opened, then it completes the shutdown
