Maybe the problem is due to some interference with Nautilus?
on 13.10 when you open HUD with all no active programs it shows commands to Nautilus (like new window, bookmarks, connect to server...)
hey! in fact, it opens these same nautilus commands when chromium is working too!
on 13.04 it would list something from the tray (like "turn on/off wifi"
or "Suspend" etc -- which all are very handy).

Bug description:
In 13.04 we could Log Out, Shut Down, Suspend and Restart using the
HUD. (Since these items are in the System indicator.)
In 13.10 this is no longer possible. This is a regression.
