Title:
  notify-osd cannot currently be used in a non-gnome-session environment

Status in “notify-osd” package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  I'm using e17 and some elements from gnome. No other notification
  daemon is running. When I try to start notify-osd however, I get this
  error:

  
  ** (notify-osd:10384): WARNING **: Another instance has already registered org.freedesktop.Notifications

  ** ERROR **: Could not register instance
  aborting...
  /bin/bash: line 1: 10384 Trace/breakpoint trap   (core dumped) /usr/lib/notify-osd/notify-osd
