[Bug 390508] Re: notifyOSD ignores the expire timeout parameter

Glad to see this bug is still bothering you, because it still bothers
us.
bug 420583's proposal great, and it's been sitting there for seven
years.
Seven years ago there was an idea that could probably have avoided all
this trouble.
Did the x time per n characters algorithm ever really get implemented?
Where is the proposed settings dialog (aside from leolik's fork, which
has one)?
How much progress has been made toward making the hooks customizable?
