[Bug 683471] Re: Unable to install GIMP on Maverick
Thanks. I appreciate the help.
I was able to install GIMP by some sort of brute force.
I re-added the getdeb third party source into Synaptic Package Manager
as:
deb http://archive.getdeb.net/ubuntu maverick-getdeb apps
Adding the repository key, strangely didn't allow the app to install as
signed:
wget -q -O- http://archive.getdeb.net/getdeb-archive.key | sudo apt-key
add -
I installed it via:
http://www.getdeb.net/install/gimp/2.6.11-1%7Egetdeb1%7Emaverick
which installs it via the Ubuntu Software Centre. But I am forced to
accept it as unsigned.
All-in-all, I see this as a problem with Synaptic Package Manager. I
think it should be doing a better job here. There's obviously something
in my config that is confusing it. And it's error messages aren't
helpful. I suppose if a person was an expert with apt, they could
figure it out. I could read up on it and learn. I just think Ubuntu
should be a little more user friendly than that.
