The layer behavior here (when starting a new project):

- Opening the layer dialog
- Draw something: It works (and displays at once)
- Adding a layer
- drawing does not display anything
- close the layer window -> drawn items appear

it is possible to draw using different layers when I close the layer
window as after switching to the layer I want to draw on.

As long as the layer window is shown, things do not display after
drawing.
