Fix #7 doesn't work here. 
With a fresh install of Dia, the directory {HOME}/.dia/ doesn't contain a file called persistence. It only contains directories objects, shapes, & sheets (all empty). Creating the file myself and inserting the xml doesn't work.
Any other suggestions?
