You should not need to install anything additional on a normal Ubuntu
system, for it to be able to access shares on Windows machines. So no,
you should not need to install any samba related packages that are not
currently installed. You might need to install additional packages to
share folders on your Ubuntu system with windows systems (and with other
Ubuntu systems using Windows file sharing), but you would be
automatically prompted with the option to do so when enabling shares on
the Ubuntu system.
